When buyers ask the AI, does it name your client?

For twenty years, getting found meant ranking on Google. That's changing fast. More and more buyers open ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity and just ask: "who's the best agency for X?""what tool should I use for Y?" The answer they get back shapes the shortlist before a search results page is ever loaded.

Here's the catch: the signals that earn an AI recommendation are not the signals that earn a Google ranking. You can rank #1 and still never get named by the assistant. Different game, different playbook.

A new front door needs a new team

So we're adding one to FirstHQ: the AI Visibility team. Its job is to make sure that when an AI engine is asked, your client is in the answer. It works across three layers:

  • Foundations — can AI systems even read the site? Crawler access, machine-readable discovery files, clean structured content within the limits these systems actually have.
  • Citations — across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity: where does the client show up, where does a competitor win instead, and what content change closes the gap.
  • Search — the classic technical and content SEO that still does real work, now as the bridge into the AI layer rather than the whole strategy.

Honest by design

AI answers aren't deterministic — ask the same question twice and you can get different sources. So this team is built to measure before and after and to talk in terms of improving the odds, never guaranteeing a result. Every recommendation comes with a baseline and a re-check, so you can show a client real movement instead of a promise.

It's a sharp wedge for agencies: a service most clients don't yet have, that's measurable, and that's genuinely new work rather than a rename of SEO.
